EY GENPOWER

Diesel Generator Sizing & Quotation Checklist

Prepare loads, PRP and ESP ratings, kVA and kW, noise and fuel-use evidence, components and delivery details for a comparable diesel generator quotation.

kVA and kW: specify the power factor

For the stated rating, kW equals kVA multiplied by the rated power factor. At 0.8, 50, 100 and 200 kVA correspond to 40, 80 and 160 kW. Record both units and the rating basis. This calculation does not verify a generator rating or replace checks for motor starting, load power factor and site conditions.

PRP and ESP: request separate documented ratings

PRP and ESP describe different operating duties. Ask the supplier for both ratings, their operating limits and the specification for the proposed generator. A value stated as standby is not interchangeable with prime power. Do not estimate standby power by adding a fixed percentage to the requested prime rating.

Silent generator noise: compare test conditions

The word silent does not define a verified sound level. A useful report identifies sound pressure or sound power, dB(A), measurement distance where applicable, electrical load and test method. Do not compare a sound-power value directly with a sound-pressure value measured at a stated distance.

Fuel consumption and runtime: use matching generator data

Request generator fuel consumption in L/h at stated PRP electrical-load points, with frequency, conditions and source. Engine-only mechanical-load data cannot establish generator electrical-load consumption. Estimated runtime equals usable fuel volume divided by matching generator L/h; tank total volume alone is insufficient.

What to confirm before accepting a quotation

Match the complete generator and component models, PRP and ESP, electrical system and enclosure. Request final dimensions, net and packed gross weight, exact-configuration photos, current technical documents, filter-kit part numbers and quantities, and written warranty and cross-border cost responsibilities. Delivery estimates need the destination and agreed supply scope.

Custom generator questions

What information starts a custom generator enquiry?

Provide the application and loads, PRP or ESP basis, frequency, voltage, enclosure, component preferences, quantity, delivery location and target date. Add daily hours, noise target and measurement distance, size limits and ATS, parallel or remote monitoring needs where known.

Are EY reference IDs own-brand generator models?

No. EY is the website and business identifier. The codes organize enquiry references, not own-brand machines or confirmed stock. The supplier must confirm the final manufacturer, configuration and equipment identity.

How is the silent configuration confirmed?

State the target sound level and measurement distance, operating load and installation limits. The supplier needs to review the enclosure, ventilation and proposed configuration; the word silent is not a guaranteed noise rating.

Can preferred components and alternatives be requested?

List preferred engine, alternator and controller brands or models and acceptable alternatives. These are requests for factory review, not confirmed component availability or manufacturer authorization.

How is European delivery agreed?

Send the country, postcode, packed dimensions and gross weight, site access and unloading details. The written quotation identifies the transport scope, taxes, installation and local-service responsibilities. Final routes, costs and timing require confirmation.

What is the kW equivalent of 50, 100 or 200 kVA?

At a specified rated power factor of 0.8, the enquiry targets are 40, 80 and 160 kW. These conversions are not confirmed equipment ratings. Final capacity must cover the agreed duty, starting loads and site conditions.

Does a silent generator have a guaranteed dB(A) value?

No universal sound value follows from the name silent. Agree the sound-pressure or sound-power target and applicable measurement conditions, then obtain a report for the proposed enclosure and configuration.

Is a 100 kVA standby generator a 100 kVA prime generator?

No. The same number on different duty ratings is not an equivalent supply requirement. Request the proposed model’s PRP and ESP values separately, together with their operating limits.
